“I came in expecting advice. What I got was a room where I could think out loud, at my own speed.”
Philosophy-informed therapy
Grounded therapy for a life in motion
Knoll Therapy is a solo practice in Boulder for adults in their twenties who are working out what to keep, what to change and what matters. Sessions are in the office or by video across Colorado.

Our Philosophy
What grounds our work
We draw on existential, humanistic and contemplative traditions, not as abstract theory but as a way of thinking about the questions that matter most to you.

Presence Over Performance
Therapy isn't about fixing yourself. It's about learning to be with yourself — fully, honestly, without the armor you've built for the world.

Meaning Through Connection
We believe meaning isn't found in isolation. It emerges through authentic relationship — with yourself, with others, and with the world around you.

Growth at Your Pace
There is no timeline for becoming. We honor the seasons of your life — the dormant winters and the sudden springs — without rushing the process.

Does this feel familiar?
You don't need to have it all figured out. If any of these resonate, it might be time to explore what's underneath.
You feel stuck in patterns you can't seem to break
Life looks fine on the outside but feels hollow within
You're exhausted by performing a version of yourself that isn't real
Relationships feel like a source of anxiety rather than comfort
You've lost connection with what actually matters to you
You sense there's more to life but can't access it alone

Services
Ways we work together
Each way of working is chosen with you, at your pace. Dr. Gaston explains a method before he uses it.
Individual therapy
One-on-one sessions grounded in existential and humanistic approaches. We talk about meaning, identity, the choices in front of you and the questions that keep you up at night.

Couples counseling
Relationships are where old patterns show up. We help partners slow the cycle down and get curious about each other instead of defending themselves.

EMDR and somatic work
Gentle, step-by-step work with EMDR and body-based methods, at a pace set by you and with the option to stop at any point.

Mindfulness in therapy
Meditation and mindfulness practice inside your sessions, tied to the everyday life you actually have. This is not relaxation training.

Sample reflections
Words from clients
“Nobody hurried me to explain myself. The first hour felt like a conversation, and that was enough.”
“He listens for what I mean, not only for what I say. I leave each session with more room to think.”
“We came in talking over each other. The room was calm enough that we started to listen.”
“The mindfulness part is practical. We try something in the session and talk about how it fits into a normal week.”
“The pace was mine to set. He checked in often and never pushed past where I said I was comfortable.”
“The office is quiet and unfussy, and I felt welcome from the first minute.”

Common Questions
What you might be wondering
Short answers to what people ask most often.
What makes your approach different from other therapy practices?
We draw on existential, humanistic and contemplative traditions. In practice that means we spend time on meaning, values and the choices in front of you, not only on what is going wrong. Your therapist explains each method before he uses it.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you are asking, something in you may already be ready for support. You do not need to be in crisis. A first session is a conversation, and you decide afterward whether to continue.
Do you take insurance?
Knoll Therapy is out of network, so we do not bill your plan. We can give you a monthly receipt, called a superbill, that you may be able to send to your plan; your plan decides whether it pays. If you pay yourself, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate in writing before your first session. Our fees page has the details.
What should I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This office does not monitor calls or messages around the clock.
